The broadcaster Mariella Frostrup has vented her frustration on social media after being forced to sit on the floor during a train journey from north Devon to London, despite holding a first-class ticket.
Frostrup, 61, was returning from a wellness retreat near Barnstaple on Saturday when she was unable to find a seat on Great Western Railway’s service from Tiverton Parkway to Paddington.
Frostrup shared a selfie of herself wedged between the lavatory and the carriage door, with a caption that read: “New lows for GWR [Great Western Railway]. A first-class advance ticket buys you a seat on [the] floor outside the toilet in a train where it’s standing room from front to rear. I’m getting back in my car!”
