Jaguar backlash grows as it offers glimpse of ‘air conditioner’ electric car

Jaguar has offered a glimpse of its “polarising” new electric car after attracting ridicule for its controversial rebrand.

The British carmaker has published a partial photo of the new model, which will be unveiled at Miami Art Week next month.

The image shows a sleek car in a metallic grey-blue with a lined grille across the back. It is accompanied by the tagline “Copy nothing”.

The image has attracted criticism from social media users, who questioned whether the vehicle was “even a car”. Others drew comparisons with air conditioning units.

Rawdon Glover, the managing director of Jaguar, told The Telegraph earlier this year that the brand’s new electric cars would have “jaw-dropping impact”, but admitted that the designs “might polarise people”.

He added: “We’d prefer to be loved by a distinct group of people, rather than liked by lots of people.”

The teaser comes after Jaguar sparked a furore with a major rebrand that attracted widespread criticism online, including from billionaire Elon Musk.

The car manufacturer released an advert featuring catwalk models with asymmetrical haircuts and brightly coloured, haute couture clothing walking around a Mars-like landscape bathed in bright pink.
