Josh O’Connor and Kristen Stewart replaced in new movie

Josh O’Connor and Kristen Stewart have been replaced in Rosebush Pruning, with Callum Turner and Riley Keough taking their places.

The film, which was announced last year, is based on Marco Bellochio’s 1965 Italian-language film Fists in the Pocket, which follows an epileptic young man who plots the murders of his family members.

Directed by Karim Aïnouz, O’Connor and Stewart were originally envisaged to lead the film, but it has now been announced that Turner and Keough – known for Masters of the Air and Daisy Jones & The Six respectively – have replaced them in the roles.

The duo will join the previously announced Elle Fanning, with additional new cast members including Jamie Bell, Lukas Gage, Tracy Letts, Elena Anaya and Pamela Anderson. Efthimis Filippou, who is best known for his collaborations with Yorgos Lanthimos, will pen the screenplay.

Aïnouz, who directed Firebrand, said of the upcoming project: “I’m so excited to bring this audacious and delicious script to life, which challenges our notions of the traditional family and the patriarchy, with this brilliant ensemble of actors who I have long admired.

“Marco Bellocchio’s astonishing debut, Fists in the Pocket, was released over 50 years ago and had a huge impact on Italian cinema and storytelling at the time. I’m excited to be collaborating with Efthimis to revisit this iconic work to create a contemporary parable about the death of the traditional patriarchal family.

“I hope [it] will be touching and provocative in equal measure. It’s a dream come true to be working with such a dynamic ensemble of actors that I have long admired to bring this explosive adaptation to audiences today.”

Whilst O’Connor and Stewart will no longer be involved in Rosebush Pruning, the pair have plenty of upcoming projects, with the former set to be involved in Wake Up Dead Man, the third film in the Knives Out saga.

Stewart, who shot to fame as Bella Swan in the Twilight series before garnering acclaim later in her career, recently appeared in Love Lies Bleeding, with her upcoming projects including Love Me and Sacramento.

Rosebush Pruning has no release date yet.
