Philippe Clement’s future at Rangers looks to have been decided after the club’s latest behind-the-scenes decision.
Both results and performances from the Ibrox club have, for the most part, proved rather underwhelming this season.
The ‘Gers currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership table. They are nine points behind both Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the standings.
As a result, many Rangers fans have already expressed frustration at the Belgian this season, with some seemingly keen for his departure.
However, it appears those supporters who hope to see the 50-year-old leave Ibrox any time soon could be left disappointed.
The Light Blues hierarchy did not look willing to sack the former Monaco boss and that stance looks to have been made definite following their latest decision.
Rangers promote Nils Koppen to Sporting Director role
Earlier this week (19 November) the Glasgow club confirmed that Head of Recruitment Nils Koppen, has now been made Technical Director at Ibrox.
Given that new position will likely see him take on an even more involved role when it comes to managerial decisions, this could be good news for Clement if he wants to keep his job.
Like the current Rangers boss, Koppen is a Belgian, and he arrived at the club shortly after his fellow countryman took over from Michael Beale last season.
Since then the pair will have worked closely on recruitment together for the Gers, while they both previously worked with Genk in their native Belgium.
As a result the two ought to have developed a strong connection, which could prove decisive in the direction the club now go.
With someone he has a direct link to now in such a senior behind the scenes role at the club, Clement should be even more confident he will be given backing from the decision makers at Ibrox.
That likely means that even amid this underwhelming start to the campaign, the 50-year-old can be confident he will get the support he needs to stay at the club, should he want to.
Rangers fans may have to brace themselves for the prospect of Clement remaining in the dugout at Ibrox for some time to come yet, whether they want him to or not.
In other news, Todd Cantwell has already dropped a hint about a potential return to Rangers.
