Is there a mass celebrity exodus happening in Hollywood? While there are still plenty of A-listers buzzing around Los Angeles, select stars, namely Eva Longoria and Richard Gere, have left the U.S. recently. Now, another famous name is making the move, and you know what they say: three’s a trend.
Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have reportedly moved out of the country following Donald Trump’s second presidential win. Sources close to the couple told TMZ the pair decided to “get the hell out” of the States right after the election, which saw Trump win against Vice President Kamala Harris.
The sources added that the talk show host and the actress felt “very disillusioned” by the results. They have since relocated to the Cotswolds District in South West England, two hours outside of London. The couple bought a house across the pond before the 2024 election, per the publication.
The pair, who married in 2008, are reportedly planning to sell their home in Montecito, California. Though, neither party has made public comment.
The comedian was quite vocal about her support for Harris leading up to the election and reportedly donated $3,300 to her campaign. Back in August, she posted a picture of the Democratic Nominee for President, along with the caption, “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come!! I can’t wait for @KamalaHarris to be our next president.”
On November 1, DeGeneres shared a video compilation of people protesting for women’s rights and reproductive rights made by political organization The Seneca Project. “Let’s vote like our lives depend on it. Because they do!” she wrote under the flick.
DeGeneres and de Rossi’s move comes on the heels of some other high profile relocations. In a new November interview with Marie Claire, Longoria, who also endorsed Harris during the 2024 election, opened up about her decision to leave Los Angeles with her husband, José Bastón, and their 6-year-old son Santiago.
“I’m privileged,” she said of their choice to split their time between Spain and Mexico. “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
Earlier this month, it was revealed Gere sold his Connecticut home in preparation for a move abroad. However, the Pretty Woman star’s reasoning was less political and more family-oriented. He said during an April 2024 interview with Vanity Fair Spain that he wished to move to his wife’s native country, Spain, so she could be closer to her relatives.
Only time will tell if other stars follow suit.
