Women’s Champions League football predictions
Manchester City’s run of 11 successive victories met an abrupt end in a 2-0 Women’s Super League defeat at Chelsea on Saturday and they will be mindful that they may have to scrap for a Champions League win against Swedish side Hammarby.
The Swedes held out until the second half in last week’s 2-0 defeat to Gareth Taylor’s Citizens, a marked improvement on 9-0 thumping dished out to the Swedes by holders Barcelona in their previous group clash.
City have won all three of their group games in this year’s competition, including a highlight 2-0 success over Barca, but they were made to battle on their visit to a St Polten side they were expected to beat comfortably, coming back from 2-1 down against the Austrians to claim a 3-2 success.
Despite their excellent start to the season City have conceded in four of their last six games, and while they should win in Sweden, a clean sheet may elude them once more.
Arsenal have been inspired since Renee Slegers took interim charge following Jonas Eidevall’s departure as manager and they are heavily fancied to see off Juventus after a 4-0 win over the Serie A leaders in Turin last week.
Striker Alessia Russo has hit a purple patch of form with four goals in her last six games and the Lionesses forward was excellent in the Gunners’ 3-0 north London derby win over Tottenham on Saturday.
She seized on a defensive error to put Arsenal ahead and she should be able to find the net again at the Emirates, having had 26 efforts on goal in her last seven matches.
